Merlin's Family

Merlin is visiting his grandparents in Indiana this summer. Hopefully, they are sticking to his quite rigid diet plan. No donuts (Opa), no toast and tea at the breakfast table (Oma), and no trips to Dairy Queen (so sorry Merl).
Merlin loves to go on visits with Oma and Opa, to the church, doctor's office, and just around town.

MERLIN'S ROAD TRIP

Merlin has been having quite the summer. On a road trip from Arizona to Indiana, he has visited New Mexico, "Followed the Yellow Brick Road" in Liberal, Kansas and has gone canoeing at Fish Lake, Indiana. Merlin is quite the co-pilot on the road, reading maps, finding pet-friendly hotels, and tasty local cuisine. He has also taken up collecting magnets for his beer frig.

LAST GAME OF THE SEASON--THANKFULLY!

It's Saturday!

Today ends Cameron's ninth season of Little League. He played for the White Sox, and yes, that hurts to even write it down--(anyone who knows me KNOWS that I am a die-hard CUBS fan, and the Cubs, well, we don't like them stinkin' Sox...) So, today is game #22. These Sox, well, to say it gently, have had a rough season. They won 3 games. But, Cameron had a darn good season, hitting 4 out of the park home runs. He pitched, played 3rd, short stop, and catcher. I think his best position is 3rd base--he dominates the area. He could be a good pitcher, but has a bit of the "Wild Thing" in him. He only hit one or two batters this season--one he hit the kids helmet and the ball bounced up and over the backstop. JUST A BIT INSIDE.....

Some of the photos are last summer's--Cameron pitching for the Belvoir Braves and us in Phoenix seeing the CUBS put a hurt on the Diamondbacks. 2008 was a great CUBS season (until the playoffs), they are having a little bit of a slow start-up in 2009. Currently tied for second, but 3 1/2 games out. Come on CUBBIES!

Living In The High Desert of Arizona

Our quarters, built in 1884, once was the home to Major Leonardwood who was the post surgeon general. Yes, that would be the same Leonardwood who went on to have a post in Missouri named after him. It is quite an honor to live in the same home as this former General.

Across the street from our quarters is Brown Parade Field and the historic barracks which were also built about the same time as our quarters.
